Khatling glacier is located in district Tehri Garhwal of Uttarakhand, the state which is known for his high, calm and beautiful hills. Khatling glacier is a very important glacier of Garhwal Himalayas due to the the source of Bhilangna River. Around the glacier there is a thick snow capped of Himalayan peaks which is known as the Jogin group (Altitude:6466m), Sphetic Pristwar (6905m), Barte Kauter (6579m) Kirti Stambh (6902m) and Meru.
The trek for Khatling glacier starts from Ghuttu, a place about 62 kms. from Tehri. The total distance of this route is about 45 Km. There is a P.W.D. Inspection house and a Tourist Rest House at ghuttu. The other important places enroute are Reeh, Gangi, Kalyani & Bhomakgufa. At Reeh & Gangi Tourist Rest Houses are available. Gangi is the last village beyond which no facilities of any kind are available and one has to make its own arrangements. The singht of the khatling glacier is most spectacular and alluring. From here Masartal is 7 kms. The route further goes up to Vasukital and from there to Kedarnath.
This trek passes through small villages and hamlets of Garhwal and thick Kharsao forests which makes your trek more adventurous and knowledgeable for those who didn’t know about the culture and heritage of Uttarakhand. You are wordless after seeing the wide grassy meadows across your route.
After reaching the Bhilangna valley, you can easily find a number of spots suited for your camping. The Trekkers should arrange tents and other camping essentials are required to be arranged well in advance from Rishikesh, Tehri or Dehradun.
